Volkswagen delays next-gen ID.4 and other EVs due to software issues

Image
By Zachary Visconti Posted on July 30, 2024 Volkswagen is facing continued issues with its software, which is causing the automaker to delay multiple next-generation vehicle models, including the electric ID.4. The next-gen Volkswagen ID.4 is being delayed due to issues with the company’s Scalable System Platform (SSP) software, according to a report from German outlet Handelsblatt earlier this month. Originally, the first SSP-based vehicles were expected to be debuted in 2028, though the ID.4 is now slated to launch in 2029 at the earliest, while the electric T-Sport has been pushed from 2028 to at least 2031. Initially, the SSP was expected to launch on nearly all of Volkswagen’s 2025 and later models, though the automaker has faced regular issues with its software subsidiary Cariad for the past few years now. VW reportedly fired CEO Herbert Diess over software and other issues The SSP is expected to play a role in helping Volkswagen reach Level 4

Ferrari Exec Targeted By Deepfake Scammers Posing As CEO | Carscoops The high-ranking executive was clever enough to ask a personal question for identification purposes 3 hours ago A Ferrari executive was targeted by a deepfake scam earlier this month. The fraudster used AI to impersonate the Ferrari CEO and request transaction help. Fortunately, the executive didn’t fall for it, and the scammers ended the call abruptly. The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is equipping scammers with new tools to deceive even high-profile targets. Recently, a deepfake scam hit a Ferrari executive, with several messages and calls appearing to come from CEO Benedetto Vigna. Fortunately, the executive outwitted the fraudster by posing a personal question for verification. It all began with a series of WhatsApp messages from someone posing as Ferrari’s CEO. The messages, seeking urgent

Tesla batteries are helping Ukrainians survive nationwide blackouts

Image
By Maria Merano Posted on July 28, 2024 Tesla batteries are powering houses in Ukraine as Russia continues attacking the country’s energy infrastructure.  Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have left many Ukrainians without power. The owner of Ukrainian Autonomous Systems, Oleksandr Bentsa, realized he could salvage batteries from damaged Tesla to power Ukraine’s homes and businesses.  In November 2023, Teslarati wrote an article about Ukraine’s wreck importers, who restore damaged electric vehicles from North America. Bentsa buys crashed Teslas through insurance auctions in the United States. The damaged Teslas are imported into Ukraine, where they are usually restored and resold. In the spring, Bentsa started a new trade: using Tesla batteries to provide Ukrainians with an alternative power source. His new trade would help Ukrainians through rolling nationwide blackouts. Russia has dealt a severe blow to Ukraine’s electricity-gen

I tested the world’s most affordable electric golf cart: The Kandi Mini

Image
The Kandi Mini is unlike any other golf cart in the world in two key ways. First, it’s less than half the price of your average golf cart. And second, it’s a lot more compact than your average golf cart. Both of these are key features for folks who have become golf cart curious but don’t have the space in their garages or their wallets for a new full-size cart. I’ve written before about how useful golf carts have become as alternative transportation. As much as I love a good electric bicycle, a golf cart can usually carry more people and cargo, offers better weather protection, and is a more comfortable feeling for many riders. The only problem is they generally cost an arm and a leg, usually starting in the low five figures. Don’t believe me? You obviously haven’t checked out new golf cart prices lately. $10,000 for a fairly basic golf cart is pretty standard these days, and it’s easy to get into the $12-$15k range when you start looking at lifted carts with bigger wheels and fa

Dodge Charger Scat Pack Escapes Four Pursuits Before Getting Caught During The Fifth | Carscoops Officers charged the 20-year-old driver with 12 separate offenses including theft by receiving and battery 2 hours ago A 20-year-old Dodge Charger driver led Arkansas State Police on a lengthy GTA-style chase. He managed to escape four times before officers caught him. In the process, the police rear-ended one innocent motorist at over 70 mph. Some artists don’t know when to put down the paintbrush and some suspects don’t know when to stop running. Ideally, they wouldn’t run at all but in this story, the driver managed to get away four different times before finally getting caught. In the process, he left a wake of destruction that included a police officer ramming an innocent motorist on the road. Late in the evening of July 4, Arkansas police gave chase when a Dodge Charger Scat

Tesla shares render of Giga Nevada’s completed Semi factory

By Zachary Visconti Posted on July 27, 2024 A Tesla executive has shared a photograph of the under-construction Semi factory at the company’s Nevada facility, alongside a rendering of what the plant is expected to look like once complete. On Saturday, Semi Program Head Dan Priestley posted the new rendering on X of the completed look of the upcoming Semi factory at Gigafactory Nevada , along with a photo of the site today as early construction continues. Notably, the rendering includes the word “Semi” on top of the building, as well as a ton of Semi docking bays lining the exterior of the facility. The company initially broke ground on the expansion project in January , alongside expansion plans for a
