Tesla launches Powertrain Endurance for Track Mode V3

Image
By Simon Alvarez Posted on October 30, 2024 Tesla’s software update 2024.38.4 saw the electric vehicle maker launching a new feature to further improve Track Mode V3. As per reports from the electric vehicle community, Track Mode V3 has now been improved with Powertrain Endurance, a novel function that is expected to enable vehicles to achieve optimum performance over longer periods of time.  Track Mode’s first iteration was launched way back in 2018, and it proved that Teslas are also pretty capable on the track. Despite the sophisticated nature of Track Mode, however, Teslas are battery electric cars, so they still tend to throttle their performance when temperatures rise due to spirited driving.  It was then no surprise that Tesla has done what it can to further refine Track Mode to be more capable over the years. As per screenshots shared by the EV community on social media, Powertrain Endurance allows owners to select options to tune their vehicle’s

Aptera completes low-speed drive in its first production-intent solar electric vehicle [Video]

Image
Spoiler Alert: The low-speed function test is short and sweet but a milestone nonetheless. Solar EV startup Aptera Motors has finally given the public a look at its “PI-2” production-intent vehicle, which will now be used for real-world validation and testing en route to production… hopefully. Aptera’s most recent milestone is a welcomed one for fans of the startup, many of whom are investors with a stake in its success in trying to bring bonafide solar EVs to the masses. The company has been (literally and figuratively) gearing up for production-intent builds for months now, and the first “PI” vehicle started to come to fruition last April when Aptera’s supply partner CPC Group shipped the first body over from Italy . While the startup’s co-founders and co-CEOs worked to secure additional funding to reach scaled vehicle production, the Aptera team has been hard at work assembling production-intent builds that will be used for testing and validation. The “PI-2,” Aptera’s first v

Tesla’s new battery add-on aims to increase capacity, decrease install time

Image
By Zachary Visconti Posted on October 29, 2024 Tesla has launched a new product as part of its home energy storage portfolio, effectively allowing Powerwall 3 owners to upgrade their system’s capacity in less time. On Tuesday, Tesla launched Powerwall 3 expansion units in the U.S., announcing the scalable solution alongside a short video demonstration on X . In the video, Tesla shows the difference between the installation times of multiple Powerwall 3 units, wall-mounted, and stacked expansion units, highlighting that the latter offers increased capacity with less hardware and a shorter install time. Tesla says buyers can add up to three expansion units per single Powerwall to boost capacity, and it also highlights that the hardware can extend outage protection and further increase savings on owners’ electricity bills without requiring additional Powerwall 3 units. You can check out the short video below, highlighting that the installation of a stacked e

2025 Chevy Silverado EV LT finally arriving at dealerships as orders open

Image
The 2025 Chevy Silverado EV LT is finally arriving at dealerships nationwide as orders open online. Although already impressive, Chevy “set the bar even higher” with the 2025MY electric pickup, giving it more range, lower prices, and new trim options. 2025 Chevy Silverado EV LT orders are now open Earlier this month, Chevy announced the 2025 Silverado EV WT edition sets a new standard for all-electric business trucks With an EPA-estimated range of up to 492 miles, the new model gains about 42 additional miles than the 2024 version. Even more exciting, Chevy revealed the 2025 Silverado EV will be available with a lower-priced LT model. “For 2025, we’re introducing an LT trim, offering a more affordable RST package, and expanding WT offerings,” Chevrolet vice president Scott Bell explained. The 2025 Chevy Silverado EV LT Extended Range trim starts at $75,195 and has an EPA-estimated range of 408 miles. It can also tow up to 12,500 lbs and has a 1,800 lb max payload. Starting at

Tesla China extends 5-year zero-interest loan program

Image
By Simon Alvarez Posted on October 27, 2024 Tesla China’s five-year zero-interest loan program has been extended once more. The incentive applies to both Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range Dual Motor All Wheel Drive (AWD) variants of the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover.  As per the electric vehicle maker, China-based customers who wish to purchase select variants of the Model 3 or Model Y before November 30, 2024, would be able to take advantage of the limited-time five-year, zero-interest financing program . The incentive is highlighted in Tesla China’s order pages for the Model 3 and Model Y.  Tesla China produces the Model 3 and Model Y from Gigafactory Shanghai. Both vehicles are offered in three variants: the base RWD version, the mid-tier AWD variant, and the top-tier Performance trim. It should be noted that the five-year, zero-interest financing offer is only available for the RWD and AWD trims, not the Model 3 and Model Y’s Performance var

Louisville launches America’s first 100% electric garbage truck fleet

Image
In what the city is calling a national first, Louisville, Colorado officials held a “ribbon cutting” last Tuesday to celebrate the launch of a new, all-electric residential recycling and waste collection fleet, which is already the city’s streets. Operating under heavy loads, in stop-and-go conditions, at low speeds, and on a predictable route, electric vehicles are well-suited to waste collection applications – especially in cities, where the average day’s work happens in well under 100 miles of driving. What’s more, their quiet operation means that residents like young kids and light sleepers are far less likely to be woken up at 0-dark-thirty by a rogue operator with a Jake Brake fetish. “We are so proud that Louisville will be the first city in the nation with a fully electric collection fleet,” said Mayor Chris Leh. “These innovative EV collection trucks will fulfill our trash, compost and recycling needs, reduce noise pollution, and include larger windshields to increase ea

Tesla Semi factory expansion gets its first full exterior corner

Image
By Zachary Visconti Posted on October 26, 2024 Construction on Tesla’s Semi factory is coming together fairly quickly, with a recent video update showing the site after getting its first full corner made up of steel beams and columns. In a video update on Saturday, Tesla Semi advocate and Gigafactory Nevada drone observer Zanegler shared footage of the perimeter steel columns and beams as they now wrap around the factory’s Northeast corner. The video, taken mid-morning on Friday, also shows the perimeter having made it about halfway down the Eastern side of the factory, as they continue to head South. Viewers can see a few loading bays built into the building’s perimeter, some of which will be used for the delivery of raw materials. The video also shows a lone Tesla Semi sitting beside the factory expansion site, and Zanegler says he has reason to believe that it was being used for a media shoot of some sort. You can check out the full update from Zanegl

Ford, LG set to move EV battery production from Poland to Michigan

Image
Under a new agreement inked between Ford and LG, the companies will move production of EV batteries for the Ford Mustang Mach-E from Poland to its Michigan facility in 2025. This (of course) has everything to do with the IRA and tax credits. “To capitalize on competitive market conditions,” the new agreement moves Ford Mach-E battery production to the US, where those batteries can take advantage of America’s various incentives . Over in Europe, LG plans to take advantage of incentives over there by supplying a total of 109 GWh of batteries to Ford for its electric commercial vans starting in 2026. “These agreements attest to our experience and expertise in powering commercial vehicles with innovative battery technologies designed to handle extreme user environments,” said David Kim, CEO of LG Energy Solution . “Capitalizing on our local production capacity, we will secure leadership in the European market and deliver unmatched values to our customers through advanced battery tech

Tesla Q3 narrative dominated by strong margins: What Wall Street is saying

Image
By Joey Klender Posted on October 24, 2024 Tesla’s entire narrative related to the third quarter is based on the strong margins it reported, which are a big reason why the stock is doing so well on Thursday, just one day after the Q3 report. Wall Street has been looking for that strong display from Tesla for several quarters. From a financial standpoint, things have been good — but not great. Analysts are now drooling over what Tesla reported — a 19.8 percent non-GAAP gross margin, and a 17.05 percent gross margin from automotive alone. Tesla stock spikes over 20% on strong margins and 2025 guidance This is truly what analysts have been waiting to see , and along with CEO Elon Musk’s strong comments on the company’s outlook for an increased annual production and delivery rate in 2025, it was hard to be bearish. Granted, Tesla still has to come through on its lofty plans for the next year. But right now and for today, the focus is margins, and Wall S

Absolutely WILD Hyundai N RN24 concept is here to steal the show

Image
New passenger-hauling SUVs? Lifestyle pickups? Promises about affordable, self-driving EVs? You won’t find any of that trash here – this cut-down, lightweight, massively powerful EV is for people who still want to drive . If you’re sick of posh, quiet SUVs built around their infotainment screens and a bunch of weird nerds calling a pack of soulless golf carts shuffling around a movie without steering wheels a utopia, Hyundai N’s absolutely unhinged RN24 concept might just be for you. Powered by the PE system from IONIQ 5 N’s E-GMP platform the RN24 is the Group B S4 to the upcoming IONIQ 5 XRT ‘s ever so slightly more civilized Delta HF Integrale. It’s not a car, in the sense that it’s not really meant to shuttle people and things from point A to B – but, while it may not haul groceries, it surely hauls ass. “RN24 exemplifies Hyundai N ‘s commitment to advancing electric motorsport technology by prioritizing the driving experience rather than spec numbers,” Joon ParkVice President

Tesla (TSLA) predicts a record Q4, stock jumps 8%

Image
With the release of its financial results for Q3 2024 , Tesla (TSLA) is predicting a record fourth quarter – a rare prediction for the automaker. Tesla missed revenue expectations by about $300 million last quarter, but it did beat earnings per share by $0.12 with an EPS of $0.72 – thanks to higher-than-expected margins last quarter. However, this isn’t likely why the stock jumped 8% in aftermarket trading. That’s because those higher-than-expected profits are mainly due to Tesla having sold $739 million in regulatory credits and recognizing more “Full Self-Driving revenue”, which is controversial because Tesla has yet to deliver on self-driving, but it keeps recognizing more revenue as it pushes new software updates that it deems improvements toward that goal. The real reason for the jump in the stock price is that Tesla actually released guidance for Q4, which is rare. Tesla notoriously posts the most vague guidance for future performance, but the automaker has now more clearl
