Lucid CEO doesn’t think self-driving will be realized until next decade

Image
By Zachary Visconti Posted on October 21, 2024 The CEO of luxury electric vehicle (EV) maker Lucid Motors has shared some skepticism around self-driving vehicles, noting that he doesn’t believe they’ll be solved until next decade. In a recent interview with Semafor , Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson has said that he doesn’t expect self-driving vehicles to happen “till the 2030s,” adding that he thinks people are “significantly underestimating” the difficulty in reaching autonomy. The statements came in response to the interviewer asking if people had been minimizing how hard it would be to surpass the final 5 percent of utter chaos involved in solving self-driving. “It’s like refining gold to 99.9999 percent — the first few nines are easy, but it’s that last 0.01 percent. I can’t see it really happening till the 2030s,” Rawlinson said. The interview also touched on several other topics, including Lucid’s powertrain technology, and the fact that Rawlinson says h

Tesla says its Cybercab wireless charging efficiency is ‘well above 90%’

Image
By Zachary Visconti Posted on October 20, 2024 Tesla has said that its wireless charging system for the Cybercab has a charging efficiency of “well over 90 percent,” in response to questions about whether the system would be inefficient compared to wired charging. Tesla made the claim on Saturday after tech reviewer Marques Brownlee, better known as MKBHD, highlighted the “massive heat waste” in wireless charging systems in a post on X, claiming that a “noble goal” in wireless charging for electric vehicles (EVs) would only reach “maybe 75 percent efficiency.” In response, Tesla plainly stated that the system’s “efficiency is well above 90 percent,” eliciting an eyes emoji from Brownlee. “I stand corrected. Can’t wait for it to ship,” Brownlee wrote, after being encouraged to say more by another user. Milwaukee Tool’s new M18 FUEL dual-battery electric chainsaw makes up to 5.8 hp – that’s the equivalent of 70 cc of ICE power to deliver faster cutting, fewer stalls, and a more balanced weight distribution for better control. Milwaukee missed zero opportunities to stuff its new 20″ M18 FUEL chainsaw with branded technology. The saw ships with REDLITHIUM batteries, an improved POWERSTATE brushless DC motor, and REDLINK PLUS Intelligence that the company says enables “full-circle communication between the saw and battery,” for improved performance, battery safety, and job site productivity “This most recent expansion in Milwaukee’s lineup sets a new standard of battery chainsaw performance capabilities, delivering unprecedented power while maintaining battery compatibility,” explains Tony Buxton, director of product marketing for Milwaukee Tool. “When paired with the new M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE XC8.0 Batteries, this saw provides professionals with a significant leap in capability for m

Tesla Cybertruck Foundation Series ends after 11 months

Image
By Simon Alvarez Posted on October 18, 2024 Tesla has formally concluded the Cybertruck Foundation Series. A look at the all-electric pickup truck’s order page online shows that the Cybertruck could now be ordered on its base form. Any references to the Foundation Series have also been removed from the vehicle’s order page.  With the Foundation Series over, the Tesla Cybertruck now starts at $79,990 for the All Wheel Drive (AWD) variant. This still makes the Cybertruck a very premium-priced vehicle, but the retirement of the Foundation Series means that the all-electric pickup truck can now be acquired for a significantly lower price.  In its base form, the Cybertruck AWD offers 325 miles of EPA-estimated range, a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds, and a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds. In its tri-motor Cyberbeast trim, the Cybertruck gets an EPA-estimated range of 301 miles, 11,000 pounds of towing capacity, and a 0-60 mph time of 2.6 seconds.  Ultimately
