Tesla Model Y Performance stands against Jeep Wagoneer S EV in new ad
The Tesla Model Y Performance is a quick vehicle off the line. Stellantis acknowledges this, but the veteran automaker also seems to be highlighting that its upcoming Jeep Wagoneer S EV will be even quicker. This was, at least, what could be inferred in an advertisement for the Wagoneer S EV that’s been posted online.
The video featured the Tesla Model Y prominently, with Jeep noting that any automaker that wants to compete with America’s best-selling electric vehicle brand knows that the stakes are high. Jeep knows this, so over the years, the company knew that the Wagoneer S EV would have to go toe-to-toe against the electric vehicle leader.
Jeep has released a new video comparing their upcoming all-electric Wagoneer S to the Model Y Performance.
“When you take on America’s best-selling EV brand, we knew that after years of preparation and refinement, there would come a time to compete; 0-60mph in 3.4s” pic.twitter.com/3zDTOhzTmU

The video then showed the two all-electric SUVs launching off the line. Both the Model Y Performance and the Wagoneer S EV looked evenly matched, though Jeep noted that the upcoming premium all-electric SUV showed a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds, 0.10 seconds quicker than the Model Y Performance’s 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds. Jeep also noted that the Wagoneer S EV pre-production model in its advertisement featured 600 hp and 617 lb-ft of torque.
It also features a variety of driving modes and an estimated driving range of over 300 miles per charge. As noted by Jeep in its advertisement, however, it truly becomes a matter of the company surpassing itself. “That’s when we realized that the true competition is ourselves — because the true definition of victory is being better than anything you’ve ever been before,” Jeep noted in its video.
Interestingly enough, Jeep did not show the rest of the race between the two vehicles, which seemed a bit strange as the Wagoneer S EV and the Model Y Performance were lined up at Willow Springs International Motorsports Park in Rosamond, California. Teslas have long been going to Willow Springs to test out their track capabilities, from the original Model 3 Performance Track Mode tests in 2018 to Unplugged Performance’s Model S Plaid racecar’s record-setting laps last year.
Jeep’s advertisement for the Wagoneer S EV was received with quite a bit of interest among electric vehicle enthusiasts, though some noted that the Model X Plaid might have been a more appropriate competitor for the Jeep due to the upcoming vehicle’s expected price. The Model Y Performance, after all, costs, currently costs just $51,490 in the United States, but the Jeep Wagoneer S EV is expected to be priced at around $80,000 to $100,000.
