Elon Musk: Tesla team to provide help as Shanghai faces aftermath of strongest typhoon in 75 years
Elon Musk has asked the Tesla Shanghai team to provide help to anyone in need to the best of their ability. Musk’s comments came as Shanghai deals with the aftermath of the strongest typhoon to hit the city in the past 75 years.
Asia is hit with numerous storms every year, though Typhoon Bebinca, which made landfall near Shanghai recently, was particularly destructive. To prepare for the typhoon, local officials evacuated 400,000 people in the Shanghai Metropolitan, as noted in a report from the BBC. An additional 9,000 people were also evacuated from the Chongming District.
Hundreds of flights were canceled, and so were train services. A strict 25 mph speed limit was also imposed on roads within Shanghai. Resorts such as Disneyland Shanghai, Jinjiang Amusement Park, and Shanghai Wild Animal Park, closed their doors to visitors as well. Shanghai’s 25 million residents were advised to stay at home.
Shanghai just experienced the most powerful typhoon in 75 years!
Best wishes for the resilient & resourceful people of Shanghai.
I have asked our Tesla Shanghai team to help anyone in distress to the best of our ability.

Needless to say, the effects of Typhoon Bebinca were notable. Videos posted online showed large trees being toppled by the typhoon. Floods were also reported in the city. Amidst these circumstances, Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared his best wishes for the people of Shanghai. He also noted that the Tesla Shanghai team has been asked to help people in distress, at least to the best of their ability.
“Shanghai just experienced the most powerful typhoon in 75 years! Best wishes for the resilient & resourceful people of Shanghai. I have asked our Tesla Shanghai team to help anyone in distress to the best of our ability,” Musk wrote in a post on social media platform X.
Elon Musk’s companies have been known to provide help to people affected by natural disasters. Over the years, SpaceX has donated Starlink kits to communities that have been affected by calamities. Tesla has also shown a tendency to enable free access to the Tesla Supercharger Network in locations that have been affected by strong hurricanes in the past.
